City Books is an independent bookshop founded and run by Paul and Inge Sweetman. We pride ourselves in promoting old fashion values, whilst using the best of modern technology.

The Best Book of 1986!
As part of our 25th birthday festival we asked our customers to pick their favourite book of 1986 – the year City Books was founded.
We can now announce the winner: Maus by Art Spiegelman.

Our literary events provide a fantastic opportunity to hear authors present their new books. During these relaxed evenings you will have the chance to pose questions to the guest and purchase signed first editions at reduced price. Tickets are available from City Books.

City Books stock a wide range of carefully selected books. Subjects include fiction, poetry, children’s books, cookery, art, business and travel. We also stock an extensive range of local books.

We are open 9.30 to 6.00 Monday to Saturday, and 11.00 to 16.30 Sunday.
